THIS IS HOW I FELT TODAY.

Its cool, ile admit it. I don't deal with cold weather well AT ALL. But really, this is ridiculous. I live in TEXAS! TEXAS! And Central Texas at that! This kind of weather is not expected! I know that every one up north is laughing right now...but its not really that cold. But, I don't care. This is NOT normal, and I was NOT prepared for it. When I say I wasn't prepared, I mean that because I did not have any gloves or scarves at the apartment, we had to leave the house at 8 AM this morning to go to Wal-Mart & Academy to get some. Did I mention that when we got to Academy there wasn't any power? Luckily though, they let us in, and we walked around Academy in the dark until we found gloves. :) So, needless to say, style icon today, I was NOT.

So, as much as I like to complain, I have to say that today was really one of those days that made me so thankful for what I have...I know that some people don't have a warm place to stay tonight, or any way to keep warm, and I have that and so much more! I have a wonderful boyfriend, great family and friends, and the cutest dachshund (and most spoiled) dachshund in Texas. :)

Today was my first day of this semester. I've been dreading it all week, especially since my first class is Chemistry (and I HATE Chemistry), but it actually wasn't so terrible. I got to wake up at 7:30 instead of 6 this morning because my class doesn't start until 9:35 (WOO HOOOO!) and that helped a milllionnnnn. I got ready, and actually managed to have a pretty good hair day considering it was drizzling outside. When I got to my class a lot of people were already there, and Im not really sure why, but for some reason I was REALLY nervous this time. I sat in the middle of my 300 chair classroom. As soon as I saw my professor I knew it wouldn't be too bad. She was about 60 with gray hair to her shoulders and old glasses. She looked pretty laid back.

She talked about the syllabus and all of that boring stuff that all teachers have to do the first day of class. Then she starting telling us a little bit about herself. She said she grew up near Canada, and ended up going to college there. After college her husband and her bought a VW bus, and traveled around the US, and Mexico, and Guatemala. SO COOL RIGHT!? She also said that she was a liberal feminist hippie, and that because of that, she is probably more relaxed and laid back than some teachers. She seemed to be a really cool person, and Im excited about being in her class. Maybe she can make me like Chemistry a little more? Or at least understand it...? If this class is any indication of how my semester is going to be, I think everything might actually be alright! Lets hope so anyway...! That was my only class today, but tomorrow I get to tackle Statistics, Swimming, and Geography. All starting at 8 AM. More on that tomorrow?

The Keurig Mini Plus

Well, Its finally here! My Christmas present to myself! A little late of course. See, I didn't actually order it until we got back to the apartment, then I had to wait the dreaded 3 to 7 days for it to be delivered.

I chose the green, but the yellow was really cute too! Here is the little baby, pictured with Jesse's mustache mug. It actually one of the only ones that fits on the drip tray (my only real complaint so far). But thats ok because the drip tray can be easily removed (for this reason exactly) and is not needed to make the beverage!

I did end up buying the carousel, but its really not needed. Just an easy way to display your K cups. Im sure I could have found a much cuter way, butttt sometimes Im a little lazy.

SO, all in all. Im very happy to have my little green friend, and I think he will make many mornings much more pleasurable! :)

AN OLD RIVALRY REUNITED

Tonight, Texas A&M will play LSU for the Cotton Bowl. Exciting? Yes! Even more exciting? Tonight they will be making college football history. Tonight marks the 50th time Texas A&M and LSU will have met! But, it gets better! This is the first time they will be playing each other since 1995! Hence the title, An Old Rivalry Reunited. :)

While looking on the internet today, I found this awesome cake! I read up on it a little and found that it was actually someones grooms cake! Pretty cool!

OH. MY. GAWD.

I could write like 5 posts about Todd Selby alone. He started photographing different people in their homes and blogging about each one. But when it became more popular, he decided to choose 32 of his favorite people/homes and make a book. SO GLAD he did that! Most of the homes are really colorful and eclectic, and the people are pretty much what I want to be when I grow up. JUST. SO. COOL.

Ok, I dont really know much about this book...except that everyone loves it. AND there are two more that were written after it...so Im pretty much really behind.

This one jumped out at me right away. It's set in Savannah, Georgia and it is a non-fiction novel about a murder and the trial that went along with it. I think ile read this one first...

Ok guys, really sorry for not posting over the holidays so far. I promise that will change soon! Im not really going to try to make any excuses. But I promise I have LOTS of fun blog ideas and I have been reading lots of cool books/doing lots of new things/drawing some really cute stuff. And thats what the holidays are about right?! Well...sorta anyway. So, for now...Ile just show you this...

This little beauty (sorta) is a little house in my hometown that puts up lots and lots of lights every year. It true, that its not a spectacular as some of the huge professionally decorated houses in the city, but there is something magical about it in its own little way. The couple that live there are getting older now so the lights are getting fewer than a couple years ago. But we still love to drive by and watch the little mini helicopter and then tiny train. Everything is pretty much the same every year, which for some reason leaves a comfort...its always the first house we go by and see...

P.S. -unfortunately because a lot of the lights on the house change and blink, it seems that only about half of the lights are actually lit in this picture...but hopefully you sort of get the feeling of it all...:)

For as long as I can remember, one of my favorite parts of Christmas was decorating the tree. When I was young we always had real trees, but that stopped after my kitten climbed up to the top and knocked the whole live tree, ornaments, water, and all, to the floor. Ever since then we have had a fake tree. But I didn't really care about that, because it wasn't the tree I loved. It was the ornaments! This year, I had my own little Christmas tree, and while all the ornaments I love from my childhood are still with my mother, Jesse and I had a lot of fun picking out some new ornaments for our tree! But when I finally came home for the holidays, one for the first things I wanted to do was still put up the tree and ornaments. I love all of the ornaments and the stories that go with them so much, I decided to take some pictures to share with all of you!

And of course I had to add this too...Ralphie trying to hide in all of the wrapping from the ornaments...

Whenever I go home for the holidays I always come home with something. But what I brought home this week are some of my favorites in a while! My grandmother gave me some pressed glass. Three separate pieces actually.

The one in the middle is thousand eye, the one on the left in Vaseline glass, but Im not sure about the one on the far right...

Another picture of the Vaseline glass, these are the ones that are supposed to glow green under a black light because of the uranium in it. Yes, I know, uranium is radioactive. I can promise you it is only trace amounts. ;)

Ate LOTS and LOTS of food. My family has a really traditional thanksgiving...we don't mess around with that new 'updated' thanksgiving food...we just stick to what we know is good...:) (that would include but not be limited to: Turkey, dressing (home-made casserole style), green bean casserole, squash casserole, cranberry sauce (from the can...I know Im weird but its my favorite), rolls, pecan pie, fruit salad, and chocolate meringue pie)

Thats right, Jesse and I have been together for exactly two years today! I still remember our first date perfectly...it was a Friday, and we drove over to a small town about 30 minutes away. I remember it was cold, because I was wearing my winter coat, but Jesse still had sandals on! I could tell he was so coooold but he wouldn't admit it. We had lunch at a little bistro; we held hands for the first time as we walked in.

It seems like nothing now, but I was so nervous at the time. I was afraid to eat in front of him, so I barely took two bites of my sandwich even though I was starving! After lunch we walked around the square and looked in all of the little shops. I had to run in and by a birthday gift for a friend, and Jesse INSISTED on buying it for me. It was pretty cute. :) We were having so much fun, we didn't want to leave, but I had to work later that day, so he took me back to my house. He gave me a little kiss by the front door before I walked in.

For the rest of the day at work all I could think about was him. Daydreaming the whole time. I probably didn't get such wonderful tips that day! The next day Jesse came over. It was the first time he had come in my house, and we had to sit in the formal living room. It was so funny. We held hands and he asked if I was his girlfriend. I guess y'all can guess what I said! I know what your thinking, isn't just one day/date a little soon to start dating? But Jesse and I had known each other for a year or two already and we had been best friends for most of those years. It just took us a while to realize. (I liked him, and he liked me, but we never actually told each other, so I didn't think he liked me, and vise versa).

Anyway, I could go on and on about all of this mushy stuff for ever, but I think I have rambled on enough for the day!

So, in short, I love you so much babe! Your the most wonderful thing that has ever happened to me, and I can't wait for many more years to come! :)

So, once again, we're going to Galveston. It basically has become our go to place for a little weekend get away, all of my life, like a home away from home (The Galvez specifically). This time, since it is so close to halloween, the Galvez is putting on a ghost tour of the hotel. You can either buy only the tour, or you can buy the package, which is a brunch on Sunday morning, a room at the hotel, and 25% of something at the spa! So, of course, we just HAD to get the package! ;) I think its going to be really great, especially since the hotel has such a huge history. Galveston is after all known as 'one of the most haunted cities in America'! And boy is this little get away needed! Not only have I had a sinus/ear infection for the last week, midterms reared their ugly head as well...so to show them! Im going to Galveston, and even, gasp, missing class on Monday! Hah! That shows them! ;) Anyway, even though its just one night, I'm pretty excited. :)

Peter Callesen is amazing. I absolutely love his work. Some of it gets pretty extreme, but the detail is unbelievable, especially his cut-outs.

By the way, not all of his cut outs are of birds...I just happened to like these two best.

Originally I was drawn to the cut-outs, mostly just because of the complexity of his work, but after looking around more, I truly fell in love with his works on water. My favorite was called "Drifting Dreams". He used styrofoam filled bed linens and floated them down a lush rivers edge. Even though the pictures themselves are great, its actually not the photo that he considers the art. The art, what the people walking by are seeing, in present time.

This castle was at a performance festival, and was an ongoing 2 week "performance"

This is a called "Festival for Birds" The picture above is of a giant nest and egg.

Something about all of this water pieces remind me of a magical fairy tale. Something you would see in a dream! :)

Ok, so I love market bags, really I do. They're so much better for the earth, and they're way cuter than ugly plastic bags! Just ONE problem. I always forget them!!! It never fails, as soon as I get to the store, I realize...hey! I don't have my bags!

So I figured I needed something to remind me to take my bags before I left the house! But I didn't want to put up an ugly sticky, so I decided to make this...

I embroidered the little bag, and used fabric markers to write the lettering because I was too lazy to embroider all of it...Im not sure if I like the frame or not, but I haven't found one I liked better yet so it works for now...;)

Ok, I know I might as well not even try and make up excuses for why I havent written in so long...but I promise...it has been INTENSE around here!

Heres a little update on what has been absolutely consuming my life recently...

This is one of the fish I have to memorize for my History of Vertebrates lab...He isnt even weird compared to SOME of the guys. There are 48 of these little (and freakishly huge) things. My practical is on Friday, and needless to say, I'm sort of freaking out.

College football. Period.

I feel like every since semester started back, the house has constantly been a mess! Cleaning always gets put on the back burner (which reminds me, I need to clean the top of the stove too).

Tonight, Jesse surprised me and took me to the movies. He didnt tell which one we were going to see but I did have a feeling.

You know how there are some movies that just engulf you? You finish the movie with a feeling to take away. Like you are momentarily incased in a bubble. Influenced by the lives of the people you just watched. The feeling varies depending on the movie, but something about it is always the same. I feel like those are the good movies.

I also think that music can do the same. Its harder with music though. Because you must make up the pictures in your head. It takes more creativity...

Anyway, enough rambling I guess!

In short, I would recommend the movie to anyone, even though Jesse did say he was one of three males in the theater. ;)

The Sketchbook Project

So sorry its been so long since my last post. But with school starting next week, we've been trying to get in as much summer as we can! One thing i've been doing a lot of is working on my sketchbook for The Sketchbook Project. For anyone who doesn't know about it already, its a project put on by the Art House Co-op, were you are sent a blank moleskine, given a theme (or you can choose from a list), and then you create your sketchbook based on that theme...My theme is "Its raining dogs and cats". I know it seems backwards to me too...but thats what they had it as. If your interested, you can click on my link to the right. Theres also a video at the bottom of that page that explains it a little better...

This is what the sketchbook looks like when you get it...

This is my cover...I titled it "..And other stuff too." As in, its raining dogs and cats, "and other stuff too."

I drew rain drops on each page, then im going to cut out pictures of animals and put them inside the raindrops...

After I fill up all of the pages with animals, i'm going to go back and draw around them...some things will be funny, and some things wont...I want this to be a fun project but I want it to have a purpose too...

The books will tour to various cities, including Austin and San Francisco, then finally make there final stop at the Brooklyn Art Library were they will live forever! This label is important, because its how people find my sketchbook. All you have to do is go ask for my name and they'll find it.

What I really like about this project is that anyone can participate. And lots of different people do! Everyone from famous artists, to children's finger painting. This is probably the first post of many on my little sketchbook, so I hope yall enjoy it! :)

Adventures: with a throw away camera.

Sometimes its just fun to buy a throw away camera, and go wild you know? There aren't any feelings of pressure to get "that" picture, because its not expensive film, but you still have the fun of not getting to see every picture until its developed. This time, since we went to the beach, I thought it would be fitting to buy a waterproof throw away camera. Some of the picture turned out pretty neat. I think there was a error in developing, because there are some tears on some of the film...but I felt like being nice to the little girl at Walgreens today. Besides, it WAS just a throw away camera after all...:)

I finally ran out of my of my Polaroid film. Well, my actual Polaroid brand film anyway. I took the last picture every from Polaroid today, and I actually didn't even realize it was the last one. Im glad it was a good picture though. But the up side of that is that I can finally dig into my Impossible Project film! I cant wait to finally get to use it!

I took some really fun pictures this weekend polaroid and not, but I haven't had time to upload and scan them yet, so for now I am posting some of my favorite polaroids from different people...:)

Jesse and I are going with the some family to the beach for the weekend, and it couldn't come at a better time. I think Im getting a bit of cabin fever staying closed up in this house so much. So what could be better than sun, swimming, shopping, and family? :)

This is a house that I have seen in Galveston for years. Every year we go by it I fall more and more in love. I had to put sort of, because technically I don't see myself living there. But I would be incredibly happy if I did. I think it would be a lovely painting. Or maybe photograph. I love everything about this little house, right down to the prayer flags.

I came back to Columbus this weekend to help my mom with a couple of things, but so far all I have done is lay in bed and listen to the rain. Don't get me wrong though...it doesn't bother me much. Thats just what you do in small towns like this. Life moves by much more slowly than most places...Here, old couples sit on their porches, and 'going to town' means going to the grocery store. Its rare that you don't know the person sitting next to you at the red light, and yes...everyone really does know your business, so you might as well make it good. I know this sounds like something from a crazy southern movie, but I promise, i'm not exaggerating. When I was younger I always wanted out of my little town, but now that I have had the chance to step out and look in, i've realized its not so bad. I don't take my little town for granted anymore. After all, I did meet the love of my life here...:)

I WANT A BIRD SOME DAY.

Not any time soon, my life is completely filled to the brim with craziness and it wouldn't really be fair to get one now. But some day I will have the most beautiful bird! I just know I will. What I love about my degree is that someday I will be able to take my bird with me to work. He can sit on my shoulder while I work on papers. :)

We had a couple of parakeets when I was little, maybe a little parakeet?

I grew up with a yellow napped amazon. He still lives with my dad, and he is the most gorgeous bird in the world. Such a sweetie. Every time we go to visit I have to save a little time for my boy!

Im in a decorating mood right now, so after studying for a couple hours I let myself have a little break. I started looking at some pictures of rooms from photoshoots (you know the ones with the perfectly pressed sheets and the glass chairs). I realized that those pictures are great, but they aren't LIVED IN and I think that makes a room much more wonderful. So here are some pictures of REAL rooms. Well, it has been a very long time since I really wrote a REAL blog, but I promise I CAN explain. You see, my computer decided to finally go ahead and DIE on me yesterday. It was a long and slow death, starting about a month ago when it stopped keeping its charge. I thought I only needed a new battery, but that didn't work, so I just procrastinated taking it to the shop until yesterday when I tried turning it on only to see a black screen and hear the most awful beeping noise I have ever heard come from my dear little computer. This is the bad news.

The good news? I just bought a brand new MacBook Pro! I absolutely love my new computer, and I have been completely glued to it since about 4:00 PM today...

Since it has been so long since I posted a blog I guess I should update everyone on the good stuff in my life recently. I traveled to Galveston this weekend for the Hands Across the Sand event and it was great. I have a lot of pictures, and I promise to post some soon! I can't tell you how powerful it was to see so many people in one place for a good cause. It made me feel that maybe there was hope for our gulf.

I also got some really rad pictures that day, some of them being of a couple of pelicans who landed literally 15 feet away from us. And being the bird freak that I am, I went a little crazy with the pictures. :)

Well, I want to give a big congratulations to anyone who actually got through this post...and have a great night as well!

I finally did it. After months of waiting and researching, I finally bought myself a new camera! We went down to Best Buy the other day, and I immediately went straight for the thing. And guess what? I was the last one! I got the Nikon Coolpix L110 and I absolutely LOVE it. It has a great zoom which is exactly what I will need for my type of job, and it is surprisingly easy to use. I have only had this camera for a few days, but so far, I would definitely recommend it.

I just love my new toy!!!

Sorry for the lack of posts recently, it has been absolutely crazyyyy around here lately! But I can say, that I have officially finished my first week at Texas A&M! :) AND, today I finally had the time to take a couple of pictures of the place for everyone to see! Now remember, we still aren't done, and I will post more as time goes on, but this is it so far. I must say, I'm pretty in love with our little house!!!

Well, it has been a week tomorrow since we moved into the new townhouse! Im sorry for not posting any pictures yet, but I promise they are coming soon (me being the perfectionist that I can be, I dont want any pictures to be taken until I have everything the way I want it...)!

Jesse went to the lake with his parents for Memorial Day, I went ahead and made the drive back to my parents house for the weekend (I needed to pick up a few more things for the house anyway). Tonight after dinner I went with my mother to get something from the town's dollar store, and boy did we find some INTERESTING things...actually some were quite reminiscent of my childhood, but then, there were some that were just...well...hilarious.

Does anyone remember these? The little yellow things are tiny straws and the tubes had this sort of putty in them...you take the putty and ball in up on the end of the straw, blow, and you have a plastic balloon! Ok, it doesn't sound as cool now, but I LOVED these things when I was about 10...

These were another favorite, but when I was a little younger...I could never wait to see what they were so I would always end up peeling off the plastic early.

Every kid loves putty, except when you best friend slaps a big wad of it in your hair...Thats another story though.

What kid didn't have these on their ceiling at some point, really!

Ok, so Ive shown you some of my favorite childhood toys, now its time for the good stuff...seriously guys...some of this stuff is just weird.

In case you cant read this...it says BEADBUG spray!!!! I don't know about you, but I think this little travel size bottle would be great on my bedside table...NOT! Or maybe to take with you to some of your less lovely hotels?

Moving Day...

Its finally here! We are officially moving in to the new townhouse in the morning! After MUCH procrastination, a failed attempt and painting, a table, and lots of packing, it is finally time (that was just today)! Im still washing clothes, but other than that...I am ready! I plan on taking LOTS of pictures from as soon as we walk in, the finished product (which could be days later), and I also plan on posting as much of it as I can on here! :)

Jesse's cousin was nice enough to help us move tomorrow, so we will have a total of three trucks it fill up our stuff with. And if that doesn't work, then we have TOO MUCH STUFF!!! Haha, well...everyone wish me luck!

After such a fun and happy day today with my boyfriend Jesse, I wanted to post some FUN and HAPPY pictures! We had a lazy night tonight, watching a movie in bed and ordering a pizza. Then finishing off the night by looking at some of our old yearbooks. It doesn't sound like much, but the fact of the matter is...when we are together, it always seems to end up being wonderful. :)

Spring is here, and with it comes the dreaded spring cleaning! But luckily for me, I've been in quite an organizational mood recently! A couple days ago I decided to put one of my little moleskins to good use. I have decided to write down all of my goals for the week and as I finish them I check them off. I also write a little something about each one (what I did, how it made me feel, how it helped, etc.). And boy does it feel great! Not only does it remind me what needs to be done, it also makes me want to complete the tasks more because I want I want to be able to check them off! At first I was only writing down 'physical' to-do's, but then I realized that I can write down personal goals as well, such as reading at least five minutes a night, being more positive, and eating less sweets!

Boycott the Seal Hunt!!!

Yesterday the Canadian government gave commercial sealers permission to start killing the few baby seals who survived this season's devastating lack of ice.

The Humane Society and many others have asked theanadian government to cancel the hunt, but instead it radically upped the number of seals to be slaughtered: 388,200 harp, grey, and hooded seals.

Watch this video then make the pledge that can help end this by boycotting all Canadian seafood! Ive been free of Canadian seafood for almost 6 months! :)

On a lighter note, I finally got my film for my Polaroid camera!!! I cant believe how fast the people at The Impossible Project got it to me all the way from Germany!

And its here just in time for spring too. Im not sure why but everything seems to be so much for beautiful this spring. I seem to be noticing things so much more. The flowers, the birds, everything. All of it its own unique piece of art. And if it couldn't get any better, Ile be going up the ocean this weekend. We are going for my mothers birthday; it is truly one of my favorite things to do. A tradition that my mother and I have had for many years. There is just something so calming about the ocean, and that town in general! I am sure it will be a wonderful weekend. :)

A Whole New Life

It feels like it has been a million years since I last wrote. Possibly because it has. Today I was thinking about how much has changed in the last six months. Six months ago I was at a little college in Montrose, and now getting ready to move in with the love of my life and I have just found out that I will was accepted into Texas A&M University! I was so ecstatic when I found out the other day. I know that this is just one step closer to what I want to be. Both of those worlds are very different indeed, but I feel like both of them are going to be very important in the history of my life. I would never give up my time in Houston. I feel like in many ways, Houston is my home. My rock. Ive made friends in Houston that I know will be with me for the rest of my life. Houston has a way of teaching you things that you cant learn in school...

Speaking of Houston, I recently went to the premiere of a wonderful movie that my father had the opportunity to have a great part in. The movie is called For The Sake Of the Song: The Story of Anderson Fair, and as the name says, it is indeed the story of Anderson Fair! The history in that building is unbelievable! Many amazing singer/songwriters come out of this music scene, just a couple of them including Lyle Lovett, Vince Bell, and of course my father Eric Taylor. ;) If anyone gets the chance to see this film please dont pass it up. I promise you wont be sorry!

Ive also been feeling pretty creative lately. I sort of feel like I am looking at everything from a different perspective right now. Its a really great feeling.

After spending a little time browsing the internet, I have pinned down my love of old Mercedes down to the very year, make, model, and ALMOST the color. :)

Today was a typical rainy winter day in Texas. One of those days that if I had MY way, would be spend in my pajamas next to the fire place. But, that didnt happen. I did however end up spending a nice night at home working on one of my latest projects.

After seeing dinosaur toes' wishlist wednesday post, I was inspired to make one of my own!

So, if anyone knows me, they know that I LOVE owls! So, you can guess that I was very excited when I was looking around etsy today and found these adorable owl soaps made by EternalSunshine!

Arent they just adorable with their little crocheted scarves?

What else you ask? Well, Ive been doing alot of looking around for cute things for the apartment, and for some reason I keep coming back to the kitchen. Maybe its my love of baking? There are two things that i especially love. Vintage hobnail glasses & a Kitchenaid mixer.

I love the white, but I wouldn't mind some in blue either. :)

I just ordered this adorable little embroidery kit from Sublime Stitching! I really want to learn how to embroider. Like reallyyyy embroider, not just the little stuff I learned when I was little. And by hand, not with a machine. I recently bought some of the cutest vintage dish towels for just a dollars each (maybe pictures will come later?), and the poor little old man that sold them told me that embroidery was a "dying craft". He made it sound so sad! So, I have decided I will learn to embroider, and keep it "alive". Haha, no but really! I want to learn! :)

Childhood Memories

So, last night my mother and I were talking about all of the wonderful family trips that I have gone on in my lifetime. New York, Washington DC, the Grand Canyon, California, etc. But my favorites were always our summer trips to our old house in the little town up north. There is no mall, no tourist hot spots, and no fast food restaurants. Only mountains, clean air, and generations of families living together. In some ways, its like a step back in time. And it was MY home away from home. It is a symbol of all of the best parts of my childhood. By the end of the night, we had decided that we would go back to the old house this summer. It needs alot of fixing up but I know we can do it. Here are some pictures of my home away from home. :)

1. Went to my second day at Blinndergarten. My math teacher taught me more about ducks than math, the bookstore consists of a closet, and I believe I have officially had a class in every room of the school in my two short days there.

2. Looked at pictures of what will HOPEFULLY be my future apartment!!! :) Its modest, but still a nice little place for us to call home.

3. Gave my miniature dachshund Ralph a bath.

4. Skype'd with my two amazing people, Dena & Makenzie!

5. Looked at lots of amazing craft websites like The Design Sponge & Craftynest.
